Oysters (including canned ones) are very healthy and nutrient-dense and a definite superfood, being the absolute best natural source of zinc (testosterone booster), and a respectable source of protein, omega-3, B12, selenium, iron, copper and trace minerals.
They, just like other canned seafood such as good canned clams and mussels make for a great and very convenient protein-rich healthy snack that don’t really need any other preparation at all (especially when smoked) to fit in your hopefully very healthy diet.
The best canned oysters (smoked or not) are ones that are tasty (or can be made so, if not smoked), affordable and not canned in any unhealthy and omega-6 rich seed or vegetable oil, since that instantly disqualifies it as a superfood in my book, considering those oils are among the worst things you can eat for your health, so, don’t eat those!
Luckily, however, there are canned oysters that don’t use such oils (although fairly rare, most canned seafood is) and might opt for water or something healthier like olive oil instead, giving back the superfood status to the oysters again – Phew!

Best Canned Oysters (Smoked And Not) And How To Eat Them
So with what makes for really good while also healthy canned oysters out of the way, let’s move on to the actual products, starting with the smoked ones:
Best Canned Smoked Oysters (And How To Eat Them)
As mentioned before, canned oysters that don’t use really unhealthy oils can be hard to find, but here are the best I’ve found that do not do that:
Crown Prince Natural, Smoked Oysters, with Red Chili Pepper
At a 4.5 rating with over 2000 reviews, these chili-tasting smoked oysters in olive oil beat out their natural/unflavored brother (below) slightly to take first place among the canned oysters.
They’re healthy, affordable, and since they’re both smoked and flavored they can definitely be enjoyed straight from the can for maximum convenience.
(You can buy them here).
Okay, next on the list we have:
Crown Prince Natural, Smoked Oysters, In Olive Oil
This is the natural and unflavored version from the same brand, also in olive oil as the title implies, and sports an average rating of 4.4 from over 4000 reviews, so it certainly seems to be the more popular choice even if the rating falls at 0.1 stars lower.
Since these are also already cooked, they’re perfectly fine to enjoy straight from the can, although some may prefer enjoying them with some crackers or crusty bread, some squeezed lemon, horseradish, fresh herbs and spices, hot sauce or other condiments – try it out for yourself!
(You can get these natural smoked oysters in olive oil here).
Next we have:
Best Unsmoked Oysters (And How To Eat And/Or Prepare them)
The unsmoked oysters, although still cooked, have the price advantage over its smoked counterparts since they’re considerably cheaper to buy gram for gram, and the top ones I’ve found are:
Crown Prince Natural, Whole Oysters, Packed In Water
These are as the title implies packed in water, which is great, and have an average rating of 4.4 from over 3000 reviews. Although not as tasty as their smoked counterparts when eaten straight from the can (I’ve tried them all, of course), they still can (pun intended) definitely be eaten this way, perhaps with some of the above recommended condiments such as some crackers, crusty bread, squeezed lemon, horseradish, spices and herbs or hot sauce or mixing them with a salad.
Another option is to further cook them, whether that means including them in a specific recipe or just frying them in some healthy fat (this is what I generally do myself).
(You can get them from iHerb here).

And now let’s wrap things up:
Wrap-up:
I guess you could even put your oysters in a wrap, pun intended, but with that said..
Oysters are a superfood and nature’s richest source of zinc.
The best canned smoked and unsmoked oysters are tasty, affordable and free from omega-6 oils, and you can get some of them from the links featured above.
They can be eaten with condiments or on their own and can be used in recipes or further cooked if needed.
“Eat more canned oysters!”
And…
There you have it, the best smoked and not smoked oysters in a can without any of the specific unhealthy seed and vegetable oils (don’t underestimate this fact!).
As always, enjoy your oysters,
/Emil
