To start things off, I want to say that although I’ve tried plenty of whole food multivitamins myself, I’ve come to the conclusion that the best multis are not necessarily the whole food ones.
Let me explain though.

Why Whole Food Multis Aren’t Always Better
The vast majority of multis labeled as whole food simply aren’t.
They’re a mix of synthetic nutrients and some green powder in order to get to call themselves so.
This defeats the whole purpose of choosing whole food, and can make you question whether it’s worth it.
The price tag, that is.
Because, you can get more bang for your buck just choosing a generic standard multivitamin (non-whole food) and complimenting it with some affordable greens powder.
In fact, this is what I recommend.
Best Multivitamin, Whole Food And Not (Synthetic)
Which brings us to #1 out of 2 multi options here.
- Body First Multivitamin – A great standard multivitamin with about 100% of most of the essential nutrients. Try it, you can’t go wrong and it’s cheap :).

You can complement it with that super-affordable greens powder to get the best of both worlds, natural and synthetic.

And then we have:
2. Kaged Whole Food Multi – Here’s one of the very few completely whole food multis I’ve found, with 100% the daily value of most essential nutrients here too, naturally sourced.
It’s a great option, albeit more expensive than the above synthetic multi + greens powder.
Why Choose Whole Food
When it actually is 100% whole food, the debate of which to choose gets more complicated, and for me personally I almost always try to go for whole food over synthetic vitamins and minerals, should cost allow.

The multivitamin is one of the few exceptions to this rule, since I’ve messed around with different ones quite a bit.
I’d go with number 1 and the greens powder rather, unless you’ve got loads of veggies in your diet already, BUT..
Personally I take both.
I take a regular multi like the #1 above, and the one from Kaged.
I’ve tested them both intuitively and realized my body can want and handle a certain lower amount of synthetic vitamins, as well as a certain lower amount of natural nutrients as well.
This means less potential side effects, and more vitamins and minerals for your body.
Bang, best of both worlds.
Personal Anecdotes On Side Effects And Performance

I’ve had some side effects from lots of different multis, both whole food and synthetic.
This means, you never know, so watch out for that if ever trying a new one (such as one of the above).
Because even the Kaged 100 % natural multivitamin gave me pretty serious ones at one point, before my body got used to it, and I still only take it, as with my synthetic multi, at a generally lower dose than is recommended (I open the capsule).
When on a really healthy diet already you won’t always need a 100% nutrient dosage from your multi anyways.
I’ve also noticed quite the performance boost, mentally, from taking a multi, so I do suspect I’m chronically deficient in some stuff when not on one.
Other Supplements

Although your multi is one of the most important supplements you should take, there’s something to be said for other complimentary supplements as well.
Check out my page on supplements everyone should be taking for optimal health and you’re all good.
Because, a multi can’t cover all your bases.
Summary

To summarize, most whole food multis are not 100 % whole food.
Get a generic one and a greens powder for most bang for your buck.
Or go 100 % whole food.
Mix it up and take a bit of both if you’re taking them intuitively, such as half half.
And enjoy your new multi.
