Shilajit VS Fulvic Acid – Their Similarities And Differences

Shilajit and fulvic acid are similar organic compounds, similarly made up and extracted in similar ways, but there are some differences between them, which is what we’ll get into in this post.

This should help you especially if you’re deciding between them for which one you want to supplement with.

So, without further ado, let’s get into what they are and how they differ!

Shilajit VS Fulvic Acid: Their Differences (And Similarities)

In a sense, shilajit and fulvic acid are perhaps more similar than they are different, mainly because shilajit contains fulvic acid (about 15-20% of it), meaning you could get away with a good shilajit supplement even when it’s mainly the fulvic acid you’re after.

“Shilajit contains fulvic acid.”

That said however, the main differences (and some similarities) between them are:

Their composition

Again, shilajit contains signficant amounts of fulvic acid, but is also compriced of a lot of other active plant/organic compounds, humic acid, amino acids and trace minerals. Fulvic acid however, is very rich in trace minerals as well and richer in antioxidants gram for gram, but, if it’s purely the trace minerals you’re after, you may be better served by checking out my post on the best trace and multi mineral supplements (just saying!).

Where they’re found and how they’re extracted

Himalaya Mountains

Shilajit is an organic resinous substance from minerals and decomposed plant matter generally found in high-altitude mountain ranges such as those in the Himalayas, while fulvic acid is organic decomposed plant matter generally derived from soil (they’re both very old though and have been formed over a long time, not too dissimilar from how our crude oil was formed).

Extraction of fulvic acid is often done using water or other methods that preserve the quality of the substance, while with shilajit extraction methods can vary.

Soil

“Shilajit is from the mountains, fulvic acid from the soil.”

Their health benefits

They both have somewhat similar health benefits since again there’s considerable amounts of fulvic acid in shilajit. They both support overall wellness, and shilajit has been used traditionally for a very long time in Ayurvedic medicine for a multitude of health ailments.

You can read more about specific health benefits of them respectively in my posts on the best shilajit and the best fulvic acid supplements, but I will say this however, that even though there’s a lot of overlap in benefits between them, they’ve been studied for different things and thus it may be wiser to go with the one that actually has studied benefits for a certain condition.

Hence, go with shilajit for immune function, brain health and for boosting testosterone (it’s likely that fulvic acid will improve some or all of these as well, but again, we can’t know for sure), and with fulvic acid for improved digestion and nutrient absorption as well as even higher antioxidant activity.

“They overlap a lot in health benefits, but not entirely.”

They’re both very good sources of trace minerals

They’re both good for reducing inflammation and oxidative stress in the body, although the best way of battling those types of issues still remains just eating really healthily and cutting out them pesky seed and vegetable oils. As part of optimizing your health in general, some earthing, exercise and taking the right supplements will also add up to and work wonders here!

Yep, both can work as good supplements (organic and natural sources) for extra trace minerals, and in and of themselves bring a lot of additional health benefits to the table, with our processed diets and increasingly nutrient-depleted soils today.

And with those differences and similarities out of the way, let’s try to answer the question of the hour then, shall we?

Namely:

Shilajit Or Fulvic Acid – Which Is More Worth It To Take?

Price cost money 1 dollar

In general, fulvic acid seems to be the more praised supplement of the two, meaning it is often recommended over shilajit and may bring even more benefits (and perhaps with less potential side effects as well), but they’re both obviously still really good options for potentially improving your health.

Such has been my personal experience as well, in that at least intuitively, fulvic acid seems to agree with me more, while shilajit did come with some side effects for me (it won’t for most I’m sure, but it did for me), such as feeling slightly more agitated and a bit unpleasantly/unnaturally energetic (did improve my exercising a bit though, as for strength and endurance).

For boosting testosterone specifically though, I reiterate that shilajit is the better choice due to the studies that’ve been made (*).

And your absolute best bet may very well be to just try them both out, perhaps not both at a time but separately or after each other to be able to feel and experience their effects for yourself and then decide whether you’ll want to stick with one or the other, both or even none of them.

This is what I’d recommend.

“Fulvic acid seems to be the preferred supplement healthwise, while shilajit is smarter for testosterone, but the best option of them all might well be to try them both to better be able to decide which one, if any, works best for you.”

And then as for which specific supplements are the best:

Best Shilajit And Fulvic Acid Supplements

I’ll say that as for the most value for your money, the Trace Minerals Shilajit is the best shilajit supplement

Trace Minerals Shilajit

and great overall value for your money, while Now Fulvic/Colloidal Minerals is probably the best fulvic mineral supplement (also great value compared to most other similar products).

Now Colloidal Fulvic Trace Minerals

But again for more on why this is, I refer you to this article (best shilajit supplements) and this one (best fulvic acid supplements).

And that’s a wrap!

Wrap-up

Wrap-up
  • Fulvic acid and shilajit have both many similarities, and some differences.
  • They’re both made up of mostly decomposed organic plant matter, shilajit from mountainous high-altitude areas and fulvic acid from soil, and shilajit contains fulvic acid.
  • They’re both great sources of ultratrace minerals.
  • They overlap a lot in health benefits, and although fulvic acid seems to have a slight edge overall healthwise, shilajit is still a very viable option and the better bet for increasing testosterone in particular.
  • Scroll up for the best specific supplements of the two.

And good luck with your shilajit and/or fulvic acid supplementation,

“Either or, fulvic acid or shilajit, has the potential to improve your health.”
